Melvin S. Kessler, 97, of Carnegie passed on May 23. He was born October 13, 1923, to Nicholas and Fernanda (Bouchon) Kessler of Sturgeon, PA. Mel graduated from North Fayette High School, he was on the basketball and track teams. In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving with the 82nd Airborne, seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge and several other campaigns. In 1945 Sgt. Kessler was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. Mel was an avid golfer and actively playing until he was 92 years old. He loved watching and listening to Pitt football and basketball games, and the Pirates. Mel was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, parents Nicholas and Fernanda (Bouchon) Kessler, brothers, Norbert, Marcel, and James, and sisters Elizabeth and Loretta. Mel is survived by his son Melvin Kessler (Linda), daughter Janet Muggar (Ed), step-daughter Maureen Yadlosky (John), 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Family and friends will be received at Bagnato Funeral Home 50 Jefferson St. Carnegie, PA 15106 on June 6 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. Funeral service Monday 12 PM. Intermit will be private at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies
