Emma Faina died peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the age of 97. Wife of the late Fulvio Faina; mother of Rose Caligiuri and John Faina; mother-in-law to Peter Caligiuri; sister of the late Giuseppina Capriotti, Maria Conti, Nino Conti, Mimi Conti; grandmother of Deanna (Caligiuri) Hendrick and James Caligiuri; grandmother-in-law of Sam Hendrick; great grandmother of Emma Rose Hendrick and Luna Hendrick, who were the loves of her life.
She will be remembered as a smiling, laughing, beautiful treasure whose passions in life were cooking, gardening, and her family. Born in Pagliare del Tronto, Italy, in 1929, Emma immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 19. She was a woman of relentless grit and strength, navigating a new life where she had little family and did not know the language. She found solace in her baking, canning, cooking, crocheting, sewing, and gardening. To know Emma was to love her—to laugh when she laughed, to smile when she told stories, and to feel honored sitting at her dinner table. If you were one of the many who received a handmade crocheted gift or tasted her olive balls, consider yourself lucky. She was selfless and giving, often working meticulously for hours on these items, whether for family, friends, or neighbors.
Emma loved to sing traditional Italian nursery rhymes to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—“Rosa Rosella” and “Farfallina bella e bianca”. A devout Catholic, she prayed the rosary daily and counted Padre Pio and Santa Rita among the saints who guided her throughout the 95 years she lived independently.
Thank you to the Concordia Bridgeville staff for loving her like your own mother and nonna. She was happy every single day of her last two years under your care.
If you see a white butterfly fluttering nearby, think of our beloved Emma. Our lives will never be the same without her.
