Eleanor Marie Patross
Born on April 11th, 1931 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania to her beloved father, John Patross, and her beloved mother, Catherine Zaletski Patross, Eleanor lived a life dedicated wholeheartedly to God and to her family.
Eleanor had an unfailing capacity for love and kindness towards every person she met. In each person she saw the light of God, and with every word and act she brought forth that light from those around her. All who met her were made to feel special, for each person was special in her eyes. Her genuine goodness came from her unshakable faith, love, and trust in Christ. She humbly lived to serve others, giving her energy and time freely without one even having to ask. To children especially she imparted her love and wisdom, nurturing so many into being. Money found its way into the pockets of many by way of Eleanor, for she valued giving to others more than she valued anything she could have for herself. For ninety-five years she was a constant example of Chrisitan love, never faltering in her consideration of others.
Eleanor spent years of her life in service to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, being a parishioner since the church’s founding by Monseigneur Russell Danylchuck in 1951. For years she attended mass daily during her lunch breaks from work at the Consolidation Coal Company. To her, Holy Communion was the only food she needed during the day. She kept the church spotless, cleaning drops of candle wax from carpets, sweeping floors, straightening books, and cleaning dishes after parish events. Her home was always open to members of the church and the clergy. She was an absolute pillar to Holy Trinity, giving so much of herself to the church. Her great reward was in the flourishing of the church’s community, the ringing of the church bells, and the peace she felt at mass. She built her home in Carnegie within walking distance from Holy Trinity so she could always lend a helping hand when called upon, and so she was never far away from her favorite bells.
Eleanor had no siblings and no children, but there was never a time in her life that she was ever in want of family members and dear friends visiting. Though not by blood, she was a sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother to so many who loved her. We who remember her love her more than words can express, for she loved us in a way far beyond the love of most people. She loved the goodness within each of us, the light of Christ within us, and now she is welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven to be reunited with her family that preceded her in death, and to be united with the Lord who she loved with all her soul.
Eleanor is survived by countless members of the Patross and Zaletski families, of which there are too many to name. In her long life she was a beloved Godmother to Mary Suzanne Dennis, George P. Zaletski, Darlene Jicomelli, JoMarie Sanders, and Jordan Sanders. In her final years, she was cared for with love and devotion by her cousin, Debbie Sgro. Her life and her death were made beautiful by all these friends and family. Eleanor died peacefully on February 24th, 2026 in her in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. Her home was filled at the time with songs, prayers, and the family and friends that loved her so dearly.
