Baldo Iorio of Heidelberg; age 94, affectionately called "pap" by his family, passed away July 27, 2011, after a battle with cancer. Mr Iorio lived a long healthy, full life that was centered on his family. He was one of seven brothers and one sister who was raised by his mother, an Italian immigrant, after his father passed away when Mr. Iorio was a child. His wife of 57 years, Hazel Black Iorio, passed away in 2001. Unable to finish high school due to the Great Depression, he vigorously encouraged education in his children and grandchildren. He was a proud survivor of the Great Depression and served with honor in the European Theater In WWII. He was one of the leading car salesman in Pittsburgh for many years after the war and was active in the Moose Club, serving as president of the local chapter. He was a Pittsburgh sports enthusiast for decades and instilled his passion for the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins into his family. An avid golfer well into his 80s, he passed the love of the game on to his grandchildren. He had a regular card game on Tuesday nights through his 94th year and could be found at the Bridgeville McDonalds with his friends on most mornings. He continued to drive to Columbus and Johnstown to visit his grandchildren on a regular basis through his final year. He was truly a pillar of strength for his family and could always be counted on for help in challenging times. He will be dearly missed. Mr. Iorio is survived by his daughter, Shirley Zirwas and son, Ronald Iorio: seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Friends received at the Bagnato Funeral Home, Jefferson St, Carnegie on Wednesday from 9AM until the time of service at Noon. Interment in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies
