John Maslany Obituary

John Maslany died Sat., Jan. 6, 2024 at Evergreen Assisted Living in Morgantown, WV. He is the son of the late Frank and Julia Maslany. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 52 years, Eunice (Suska) Maslany, his infant brother and sister, George and Helen, his grand-daughter Sarah Irene Maslany, and his brother-in-law, Nick Sheleheda.
He is survived by his son John M. Maslany (Pamela) of Mt. Morris, PA, and his two grandsons, Tony of Parkersburg, WV and Matthew of Lewiston, NY. Also surviving are his sister, Anna Sheleheda of Ambridge, his nephews Nick (Marilyn) Sheleheda of Ambridge and Michael (Nancy) Sheleheda of McCandless and their families, and a special niece, Bernadette Mehno of Freedom.
 

John was born March 27, 1926, in Carnegie, PA and lived there almost his entire life. He served in the US Army's 2nd Infantry Division in WWII in the European theater (Czechoslovakia and Germany) and was awarded a combat infantryman's badge.  He completed his education after returning from the war and held a number of different jobs.  He retired from the US Post Office after working there for nearly 20 years.
 

He was a long time active parishioner of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Carnegie. He sang in the church choir and served as a Eucharistic minister for a number of years. His faith was at the core of all he did.

The family wants to extend its thanks to Dr. Joshua Goldman and the staff of PPCP in Greentree, Lori and her entire staff at Evergreen Assisted Living in Morgantown, and the staff of WV Caring Hospice with special thanks to Chaplain Dennis.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10, from 2-4:00pm and 6-8:00pm at Bagnato Funeral Home, 50 Jefferson Ave., Carnegie, PA.  Parastas service will be held at 7:30pm.

Funeral Liturgy at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church at 10:00am, Thursday, January 11.
